A lot of people are indespensible based on employer needs and competition and skills. So you just have to find the right employer and concentrate on your skills.
Companies like MSFT and Google believe in retaining employees at any cost and taking care of employees in best possible ways. But getting into them will be competitive.
So it all depends on a lot of factors, company finances, employer attitude, bad luck, bad time, business going down, bad managers, problems in departments, co workers issuees, consulting company blues, immigration issues etc.. ................

A lot of people, including me have lost faith in IV. They are not going to pay. We don't know what IV is working on
I believe the core group has made efforts to let us know what they are working on. Obviously, we shouldn't expect them to give us a daily update. That would be quite stupid.

I think this has also been addressed here in different threads. IV cannot, just by itself, get congress to pass pro-immigration laws. However, it can influence the senate/congress to add pro-EB provisions to pro-immigration laws.
If you think that with 8000 members, and 300 contributing members, you can have the congress/senate pass pro-EB laws, you are grossly mistaken.
IV needs to figure out other ways to generate cash if it thinks that would help. One way would be advertising on the site. I think IV has built this website well and it is an asset it needs to use NOW. I believe IV can charge up to $10,000 a day for advertising on the website. That would be $300,000/month or $3.6 million a year. Even $3000/day would result in over $1 million. That should not be very difficult to do.

Longest I have seen a 485 denial go without getting reopened is 5 months.
If a person doesn't have h-1b then six months is a magic number. If person overstys six months and uscis ultimately denies it again then person is in terrible situation (3 year bar).

Hmm , interesting ... I have two EB2 I-140 from the same company as well , one for March 05 (non-RIR->BEC->RIR->approved) and the other for Sep 06 (PERM) and according to my attorney my March 05 PD is applied to my 485.
I was just sitting with both hands together since my dates are not yet current, may be I should call NSC and make sure the correct PD is assigned to my case. So you just call (T/N)SC using POJ method and ask a polite IO about this if you get hold of one ? would an infopass help ?

maybe we should have a 'sounding board' section where such threads can be started where you can cirb all you want about desi companies/consultants and other issues you want to get out of your system. You do realize that many people read these threads. Spritied discussions are great but upto a certain point and if they help the cause.
We are a small community here and all of us are stuck in a problem we DID NOT create. we are a part of a system that is broken. Instead of crying about problems, lets try and figure out ways to solve one for a change.
if people cannot contribute financially, conrtibute your time and talk to people about IV. Try to meet sucessful/influential immigrants and see if they can help us out, see if they can help us with their contacts. Try to seek people who are stuck in this mess and educate them about it. Get leads on people who can help us out.
Start a thread that mentions what you have done to help IV maybe people will learn from that

The selfish brats who have EAD's and are acting ignorant, remember if something goes wrong you could be stuck on EAD's for another 5- 10 years. The point is, we all as a highly skilled immigrants have an obligation to help ourselves and the ones who are stuck in this limbo till we get our GC.
You can either choose a piece of pie or take the whole cake home for your family and friends. Life is all about choices and a man is as good as his word. So give out your good word and help the others. 15 minutes that's it.

This should end. People here should know that we are paying all taxes. And we are paying Social Security tax as well. Because of retrogression we don't yet know if we would get our green card. We still pay for it and we don't take a dime of it if we have to go back to India.
We are helping the elders to have regular pay and this is what we hear? If there is a way as our friend said we should confront this legally.
Rather we should worry about how to get SKIL passed. This guy from the Hudson institute is a nutcase like Lou Dobbs. Can we sue CNN? Don't get me wrong, my blood too boils when I read such nonsense. But getting emotional doesn't help.

If you have high ethical standards then you will call your company and tell them it is wrong.That what you do, instead of painting everybody (indians) as bad. I came here on F1 studied here got a job in campus interview. I could have gone to a desi company and earned about 20 % more than what I did, but I did not. its left upto each individual to take his own decision.

akred, Thank you for helping to promote this petition. I think that when we have enough signatures we must also release this letter in parallel to media outlets while we send it to CNN execs. This will make the folks at CNN more answerable to this petition. However in order to do this we require the backing of IV core and utilize their contacts with the media. An individual like you and me can only go so far. Backing of IV core will provide us with maximum traction to evince response from CNN.

(1) Bringing awareness to a lot of people - this is a big achievement
(2) Helping anonymous people who come with issues, most of the advises and opinions here do not have any selfish motives and every advise comes with a lot of experience
(3) Raising awareness in media
(4) It is single most strongest organization representing highly skkilled immigrants
(5) Exposing selfish employers and lawyers and educating immigrants so that they don't get exploited
(6) Being realistic about anything and everything
(7) Making sincere lobbying efforts
(8) Educating lawmakers
(9) Not breaking any rules and doing everything in a good manner.

(1) Diplomacy - Lets study our opponents and businessmen and lawmakers so that we know where we stand and how to do things.
(2) Controlled membership access - People must fill out a membership form
The above said, I think when someone challenges and criticises, we can also take them in right spirit and not pounce on the person. Criticisms lead to a better system implementation and has its own advantages.

Still willing to do rally or interviews etc., but I'm putting most of my spare time into energy advocacy -- which I see as a more important issue. If someone/IV needs me for something specific leadership (inc. Pappu) have my contact details, and a private message to me will reach me.
I have been a IV member since 2006 . I have seen the ups/downs . donated money , sent letters , attended rallies and done whatever has been been proposed . But I see that many senior members who had the drive to motivate people are not sending or being part of any messages or threads at all and that is exactly why the movement seems to be losing steam .
The standard response that I see to any question is "have you donated money ? " . "Don't ask for anything till you have donated. " this is followed by some some red dots which normally works to silence the questions. People will be willing to donate when they believe in the movement . I remember we collected $ 30,000 in 1 month before the rally there was huge thread with all the donations . People were charged up and the money came up automatically . I am willing to donate but to be brutally honest I do not see the same level of motivation as was there in 2006 / 2007 days .Please use this as a wakeup call and not as reason to vent your frustration on me .
There are many senior members who I do not even see any more . Members joining in late 2007 or early 2008 will not know any of these guys .

If you have a country where the prime minister shows his face only once in 4 years , how are the people supposed to believe in that movement ? Please don't reply with a message saying what have I done or why can't I contribute money ? I have done that I am looking for leadership to show us the way and motivate us . All campaigns don't need money donations( Letters , calls , faxes etc ) . We could start with that and then drum up support and momentum and then the money will start flowing in automatically . All campaigns don't need money donations( Letters , calls , faxes etc ) . We could start with that and then drum up support and momentum and then the money will start flowing in automatically . There has to be a synchronized campaign organized by the leadership and all I see is everybody putting their eggs in the basket called spillover.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus again reiterated its opposition to any immigration legislation that does not address an amnesty for illegals and said that they will block any attempts to pass smaller immigration bills.
