I must say that this is a great great effort. Both, the flower campaign and the rally. Nothing like this has been done before by wanna-be immigrants. We are hardworking, law abiding, well educated people. But until now, the general opinion was that we are at the mercy of the American immigration system. I was especially so frustrated when some of my friends thought that there was nothing wrong in what the USCIS did. Their response was simply "what can we do? let's just re-apply when the dates become current again". Historically, Indians (at least, from my experience) have been hesitant to protest against the wrongdoings of their rulers. This is seen even today, when we fear to raise our voice when our bosses or managers at work exploit us, or our advisers/professors exploit us, or if the USCIS changes rules in the middle of the game. In India too, the general opinion is "Nothing is going to change, let's not get into trouble". This rally has shown that things are changing. We all should wake up, and fight for our rights! I could not attend the rally as I am based in Michigan, but I thank all of you who protested for me and my family. I will do my best to support this effort in whatever way I can.

how about being a monthly charge of some amount to be members who can post/respond. Others can read but not post. This way you will know exactly how many paid members you have and amount you can expect monthly

A short digression to an answer.
Most CS undergraduate curriculums have a 4 course sequence CS-1, CS-2, CS-3 and CS-4. This means that CS-3 is pre-requisite for CS-4, .... In CS-4 it is not possible to answer CS-1 questions. The instructor gets irritated if you do that.
Your following concerns are covered in Retrogression 101.
1. Things change in DC. Core had some info in Dec/Jan that changed.
2. No one can promise anything. Bush is the most ardent supporter of CIR but can (will) not get it done.
Nothing happening as some core members wrote in very optimistic tone about Feb 15. No congressman is even talking about it lately.
Are core members trying to just enroll more by giving hollow promises?
It is very irritating for someone in Retrogression 401 to answer Retrogression 101 questions at the rate of 1 per day with no desire to be educated.

My answer was from a URL without my opinions. This thread was devoted to this one person. The answers had no effect on the person. We wasted a day on it.

IV needs to figure out other ways to generate cash if it thinks that would help. One way would be advertising on the site. I think IV has built this website well and it is an asset it needs to use NOW. I believe IV can charge up to $10,000 a day for advertising on the website. That would be $300,000/month or $3.6 million a year. Even $3000/day would result in over $1 million. That should not be very difficult to do.
A lot of people told us in Jan 2006, that IV will not survive. A lot of people thought that we wont be able to cross $10,000 mark. That includes myself. I did not think we would come this far in first week of Jan 2006. I hadnt met anyone else in core in person. I didnt know CIR will not pass in 2006.
Things turned out pretty good as you can see, as far as support, membership and contributions go.
As far as ads are concerned, I dont think we can generate more than 2000 a month in advertisement and its not worth it making the site look like a commercial outlet rather than a non-profit grassroots advocacy site.

It's only how your company treats a particular job opening that you get designated as EB2/EB3. I could file in EB2 and lots of top-rankers from my class could only file in EB3. Does that make them any less capable than me?? Nope!
Exactly and that is the only tangible that immigration law quantifies. EB3 does NOT label an individual as an inferior in terms of skills or knowledge he posses, but simply binds him to the definition of the job that he agreed to take on.

Why should an H1B pack his bag in zero days when he loses his job ? ( He doesn't even get time to sell his house, take care of his kid's education etc)
Why is an H1B employee asked to pay for social security and medicare when government knows that he cannot take advantage of these benefits ?

Where is your case? You should call and talk to an IO and find out. It will be good if the IO can put in a note in your case on which 140 needs to be used. After around 100 calls, I managed to talk to a very friendly IO, she put in a note and asked for my file to be pulled out of storage (I believe that is what happened in my case). I was on the phone for around 20 minutes with this IO and I couldnt believe how a IO could be so friendly and polite :) Have you treid CIS Ombudsman and USCIS Sec. Napolitano?

It would have been great if everyone could have a similar white t-shirt with a slogan on front that said
"Ask me about legal immigrants"
and on the back
"www.immigrationvoice.org"
Obviously this is not possible at this stage. How about everyone at least pinning something similar that is printed on a paper on their shirts? Similar to how runners do (http://z.about.com/d/studenttravel/1/0/s/H/ujena-marathon-solo-2.jpg)
It will help the organizers and any media persons in identifying the rally participants easily.

When I called Lucille Raybal Allard's office last week, a rep from the office had an extensive conversation with me about both the bills and they have not heard about them before. He recognized me when I called him back to check if they made a decision.

the fact that the person remembered you does not mean anything.....say, i run a hardware shop and have not sold a mousetrap in months - suddenly 3 people come in asking for a mousetrap - despite the fact that i probably get hundreds of customers - chances are i would remember those 3

As I mentioned in one of my post not even 100 persons responded. It either means there is not much persons who are impacted by the memo or most are not interested. For many people to participate they will need to know the details and directions. But most update might be in donor forum. So I think in future IV will get good efforts from only donor members. But if enough donor members are there then that will be ok for IV to get success in any drive. Otherwise it will be tough as there will not be enough people for advocacy efforts
But this drive might have added a few donor members. In that way it is good.
I am in "Not in H1 and not affected" category but willing to contribute both time and money for this cause.

I have tried to put my career goals ahead of the dollar conversion rate (not always easy). Because i took up new roles and salary , i have had to restart the GC process a couple of times. As a result i am still without GC despite being here for more than 10 years and having two masters degrees from US. I am sure this is a common story here.
I am heading towards a another change and now have very little patience for restarting the process. I am glad many people on this forum have volunteered to help pack. I will be getting in touch with you in a few months.
That there are frustrated people with opportunities outside the US, and they will leave. This is a great example. However this is still a silly poll. It does not ask questions that will bring that out. It talks about leaving to prove something to someone. People did not come here to prove things to the US and will not leave for that reason.
On another note I heard this was an activist organization. A peek at the threads shows a lot of whining and complaining about being asked to be active. maybe I heard wrong.
