redesign it to say something to the effect of 'YOU ARE SCREWED MORONS UNLESS YOU DONATE RIGHT NOW!' - making a reasoned argument obviously hasn't worked so far as folks just think someone will do the job for them

Its a very tough business to calculate the dates or numbers...
First of all nobody gives an actuall count of cases accurately...
Nobody know how many cases pending with USCIS...Nobody knows
how much would be PD based distribution...Nobody knows how many
people got LC but who cant apply for I485 because of retrogression..
We always thought that there is 360k application in BEC and since those LC have PD from 2000 to 2005 there are no chances of fast movement of PD in year 2007 especially for EB3 and EB2(Indian , China).
After reading this news it seems employer withdrew many cases, which they filled for employee who no longer work for company, so certified case is going to be only 100k, much lesser then 360 k. How many more years it will take to clear these 100k LC? I don't think it should take more then 2 years...
But you know logic doesnt work with US immigration system and we also dont know how many people are applying through EB1 and EB2-ROW, which are current, we also don't know how many people are already sitting in 485 stage

From Greg's blog:

JULY 2ND FILERS
Some of you have been concerned about my post regarding the rejection of some applications received on July 2nd. I've been checking and it seems to be true that some cases were sent back that day. Apparently, the number of cases sent back is small, however, so that is good news. And you should have received the case back by now if you're in that group. For everyone else, the way you will likely find that your case is being processed will be if the check is cashed. I would give this a few days and keep checking with the bank to see if the payment has cleared and this will be a lot faster in all likelihood than waiting on a receipt. Obviously, check with your lawyer on this.

Hi letstalklc
Thanks for your reply.
"SBI will update only once in the morning" Just wanted know the morning of India or USA ?
Ok, I just did myself and man you are RIGHT.
Today's exchange rate is [USD 4001 10000 48.07]
and I got ($$$ X 48.07) - 25.
Many thanks for the knowledge.
I am not sure if ICICI also does the same, because I too have stooped using their service. And you know what, I called when once when I had a very bad exchange rate given. I said that I will quit using your service and surprise surprise they didn't care. And ,now, So Do I.
That is India time....
If you transfer less than 1000 USD to outside SBI, they will charge 25 rupees, the only problem is that they will not specify that charges any where in the transaction.....but it will be accurate all the time....

I had to answer as NO as i live in northeastern PA... the poll should have had an option "I would love to but I live too far away.. but I'll be there in spirit" .. :)
I think everyone is glad that you will be there in California in spirit. Maybe you could help organize another rally in northeastern PA.
I think a better poll option would be to say "I live too far away..but I will organize a rally closer to my residence"

Why do you jump the gun and reach conclusions??!!!
All that was asked - was to write to the Radio station using their website. Who asked anyone to picket?!!! Re-read my post. I asked members to call up and ask hard questions challenging his credibility. We have nothing to lose by doing so. If we make him fumble, he stands to lose a good following.
I'm part of that 10% that you're speaking about. Are you? Have you joined your state chapter? Did you march in DC? Are you a regular contributor?
What's wrong in using Gandhi's name? Are you allergic to the great man?
Any day a Gandhi quote is better than the - 'This can't be done. That can't be done. It's all in vain' statements, which are highly negative, demoralising and triter than the usage of Gandhi. At least Gandhi quotations are positive and uplifting. And we need that here to balance the pile of the negative statements that get posted.
It's a promise. Until you guys don't get tired of posting your negative and demoralizing posts, we won't be tired of invoking the Great man's name. We know it's vain to invoke Gandhi to you guys. But still hoping against odds that it may affect you in a positive way. :)
Well then why dont you picket against NumbersUSA, programmers guild et al too, i can name 20 conservative radio shows try emailing/talking them to change their opinion. I say this because i have emailed to a few and even tho they understand my point of view they will not change something that gets them ratings and propagates their cause.
IV has 25k members, i guess 10% out of those are really motivated to participate and ready do something, if you start diverting your resources towards such issues your team will not have much motivation or people remaining when you really need them to do something. IMO
Quoting Gandhi left and right is becoming pass now, its like desi politicians, invoking Gandhi for everything. Try not to take his name in vain. (this is not directed at your post, i have been following your well written posts for a while. It a general comment after reading the forums.)

"Dear XXX: We were informed yesterday afternoon, during our teleconference with AILA, that it was confirmed by the Immigration Service that they are not rejecting/returning any cases received by Monday July 2, 2007. Your application was included in the early Monday delivery of packets marked for Saturday delivery so it will be retained by the Immigration Service while they make a decision on whether or not to reverse themselves on the filing deadline.
I will keep you posted as to any new developments on your case. You will also be receiving our Breaking News online notices advising you of any new changes. If you are not already receiving our newsletter, please let me know I will ask our secretary to add you to our e-mail list."

Mr chaanakya, You may find this as a personal attack! But it is not. This is an attack on your thought process!
You claim that you received a PHD. But I seriously doubt whether the university that decorated you with a PHD evaluated your ability to think rationally and ability to reason!
Normally with education people achieve wisdom, knowledge, ability for rational thinking, ability to reason, humility, compassion and a better understanding of the functioning of the world.
I am not saying you do not have the right to complain or right to protest. You have and you definitely should have. But the approach that you have taken is the wrong one! In your post you criticize about people lamenting their plight! In reality, you are also doing the same, Am I correct?
If you are a real PHD, just go through the following post that you presented and analyze how you can improve that to make it a product from a REAL PHD!
If such an educated guy like you can become an opportunist, how you can expect higher standards from lesser mortals!
In another post you said that you were eligible for EB1 and couldn't go through that rout, are you lamenting here? If you are well qualified, why didn't you go through that rout?
You said:
"You have all the opportunities that were/are available to a person who sweated it out in the university system here to gain more qualifications and get an EB2 job."
In the same token, Why you are not trying to achieve a suitable job at a suitable firm which will apply your GC in EB1? You have all the opportunities for that, right? Why can't you achieve a Nobel prize and obtain GC in a split second? Who is stopping you?
Just because, you did your masters and PHD from here, does that make you special? What about a guy who obtained Masters from G Britain? - Is he ineligible? Would you prefer special treatment over him? The point is, when you came here, you swore that you do not have any intention to immigrate, and you just have intentions to study and return to your home country - Try to remember, you did that in your F1 visa application form. So, my friend, nothing gives you a right to be here or to get GC. It is a privilege.
You need to understand one thing: Each person has different skills, living circumstances, responsibilities, and different type of blessing from the almighty. So, don't measure everyone with the same yard stick that you are using to measure and don't use your own selfmade standards.
If undocumented immigrants where also competing with you for a GC spot, you would have said, they also have the same opportunity here, why they are not taking masters and PHD to get their GCs sooner?
In reality, some are fortunate to reach your level, but not everyone! But that doesn't make them ineligible for the Pursuit of Happiness and Pursuit of a better life!
If you do have a real PHD, you should lead, you should be a role model for many and propel your energy in the positive direction instead of a stupid post like this! You can work to make things better in this country!
My point is, work hard and lead to improve the immigration related laws and procedures!
Last point I would like to mention: Dear friend, Just education alone will not make you a better person or a person with wisdom. Try to learn from life, lives of others, problems of others! I think, if you try, you can understand this better than me, because you have better education!
And please, don't speak for me: I am an EB2 Masters category guy.
Last message to all folks who express their feelings through red dots: Think before you act! Provide the real reason why you are giving a red dot. Don't just allow your emotions to control you.
Yes, that is right, I said “plight of EB2-India”.
I am a passive observer of these forums. But some of the ridiculous notions floating around here have motivated me to vent. First and foremost, the law as written is highly favorable to people in EB3 categories, even from India. Here is how...
Take my example (and there are thousands like myself)....came to the US 8 years ago, spent 5 years working day and night to earn a PhD on a low (barely sustainable) stipend, got FIRST job saw decent money for the first time 6 years after I came.
Now, compare this to a person working an EB3-job for the last 8 years. Not only does this person do a real job that hopefully provides a respectable income but this person also has the option of moving to EB2 after 5 years of experience. So, at the end of the day in 2008; this person comes out ahead of me in terms of money, in terms of priority date (if ported) and most likely in terms of GC.
There are complaints all over the forum which have the stink of pretentiousness such as “oh..i am a poor EB3 waiting for n number of years” etc etc. What you guys seem to forget is that YOU are NOT an EB3, it is your JOB that is EB3. You have all the opportunities that were/are available to a person who sweated it out in the university system here to gain more qualifications and get an EB2 job. You CHOSE not to. The general discussion seems to center around cribbing about the US immigration system (Immigration by the way is a privilege defined by laws, not a birthright) and then blaming the EB2 crowd when they finally see the system implement the law as intended in the first place (horizontal spillover rules).
All these posts that refer to “my career is over because my gc is delayed” are nothing but a pathetic excuse. Law of supply and demand....if you have a skillset that is valuable, you will be fine with or without GC anywhere in the world. It takes a bunch of documents to remain here legally, all you need is a passport to go back if the system here seems so bad.
For all the attacks that are bound to happen, here is the fodder.....this is probably my first and last post, I haven’t contributed a dime to IV, will work here as long as I like it and if not, India is a great country and provides enough opportunities for any skillset !!

On USCIS website I-130 is also pending along with I-485.
At I-485 interview IO said only thing keeping my freedom (GC) away from me is NC.
Does that mean I-130 is going to clear automatically once the NC is cleared ? or do I have to be worried about that separately?

Dear IV Members,
If you believe that your success depends on your immigration process - whether it's the ability to file I-485 earlier or to get green-card and citizenship sooner or whether it's the ability of your spouse to work - then you have to believe that your success somehow depends on the success of Immigration voice and these 170 volunteers in DC next week.
As you may know, we are just one more week away from hosting Advocacy day in Washington DC where about 170 members of Immigration Voice will conduct nearly 250 meetings with offices of Senators and Congressmen. Such events cost money. If we have enough contributions, we can spend as per our budget of nearly $ 50,000. If not, we will have to cut back on the event spending and reduce the magnitude and size of the event.
If you are not coming to DC next week, please do your part and contribute funds to Immigration Voice. It not only finances the event properly, it instills pride and confidence in the members who will be there in DC that there are thousands of willing supporters behind them who could not be there physically but are 100% with them in their determination and resolve.

PD: Nov 2001
Labor Certification: March 2006
I-140: Approval April 2006
I-485 -May 2006
Finger Printing: June 2006
It took almost 4 1/2 years to get the labor certification and now its almost 17 months since my I-485 is pending approval. Took the path of writing to the FL, State Senator, Local Congressman and was fortunate to receive their response suggesting that its stuck in the namecheck stage and will have to wait for it to be completed. It has become a nightmare.... The only update in my case used to be whenever I initiate a service request. Now what is that which I can do to come out of this riddle....
Any suggestion in this regard is highly appreciated !!!!
Write to Mr. Bush (no kidding). They will send an inquiry to FBI and you will get something from FBI NNCP (name check division). If that does not help, file a lawsuit against USCIS/FBI. Or you can file a lawsuit first and then write a letter to save some time. The lawsuit will get things moving. The do-it-yourself guide is located here:

I have sent money using icicibank's M2I service . Usually they take 5 working days to remit the money(atleast 8 days to transfer). I made four transactions last week(mon, tue, wed, thu) and they already remitted the money using low conversion rate.
It just took less than three days to remit the money this time. Bank deliberately did this just to steal money from me. I have lost more than 35 paise per dollar and it comes close to Rs 10,000. This is ridiculous and its a big robbery.
How do i get my money back? How do i make a compliant about this bank? They have no one to assist me over the phone.
What to do now?. Rs 10,000 may look too small for us. But how can we let banks to act like a criminals.
Any help/suggestion/comment?

While we are at it let me throw this in....
Assuming you decide to persue MBA from a good university instead of online. What kind of investment of time and money are you looking at? Is it really worth the investment when you are already in your 30's? Is is worth spending the time and money on a MBA? If you spend the same time/money on a business opportunity wouldn't that be better in the longer run? Is it practical to start a business when you are in the 7th/8th/9th year of H1b with no idea if/when you will get GC? Is it a safer bet to invest in education?
---------------
In my opnion starting your own business is always a good idea, of course with uncertainities with GC process it is another risk added to the enterprise.
In my opinion, doing an MBA from a good school can open up doors to further growth in a comapny. With jsut technical skills it can get stagnated.
Age should not be a restraint, but with age comes other responsibilities of familiy etc, those could be more limiting.
I think doing MBA from a good institute is good idea, India is really humming and has lot of growth opportunities for MBAs.
